Remove First or Default Database in Exchange server 2010/2013

First we assume that we need to move mailboxes from database DB01 to DB03. Now we will open Exchange Management Shell and run the following commands:

To get list of databases:

Get-MailboxDatabase

Move Mailboxes from database DB01 to new database DB03

Get-Mailbox -Database “DB01” -ResultSize Unlimited | New-MoveRequest -TargetDatabase “DB03

List all the move request with percentage completed:

Get-MoveRequestStatistics -MoveRequestQueue “DB03

Remove all completed move requests:

Get-MoveRequest | where {$_.status -eq “Completed”} | Remove-MoveRequest

Now, We will move Arbitration mailboxes to new database.

Get-Mailbox -Database “DB01” –Arbitration

Get-Mailbox -Database “DB01” -Arbitration | New-MoveRequest -TargetDatabase “DB03

Now, we will move all mailboxes from Archive database if there is any

Get-Mailbox -Database “DB01” -Archive | New-MoveRequest -TargetDatabase “DB03
